    Belconnen Markets

    The Belconnen Markets, now known as the Capital Food Market, serve as a premier destination for fresh food and casual dining, offering a vibrant culinary experience for both locals and visitors to Canberra.


    Vortex Fire played a critical role in the development as Fire Engineering Consultants, ensuring full compliance with all relevant fire safety codes and regulations as mandated by the National Construction Code. In addition to regulatory compliance, Vortex Fire conducted advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and evacuation modelling to support effective smoke hazard management within the building.


    Delivered in collaboration with Stewart Architecture, the project represents a successful integration of fire engineering and architectural expertise, resulting in a dynamic hub for fresh produce and culinary experiences in the heart of Canberra.

Renowned for its exceptional selection of top-tier F&B, retail, and entertainment options, the mall stands out as a must-visit destination for both residents and tourists. Setting itself apart through innovative redevelopment, Yas Mall introduces flexible co-working spaces called Cloud Spaces.

     

    In a commitment to the utmost safety of visitors and tenants, Vortex Fire has partnered with Yas Mall to conduct a thorough fire safety audit and develop a retroactive fire life safety plan, ensuring a secure environment for all.

  • Promenade Mall Redevelopment

    Promenade Mall Redevelopment

    The Promenade Mall redevelopment is a visionary project aimed at revitalizing the existing Promenade Mall in Thornhill, Ontario. This multi-phased redevelopment plan includes the transformation of existing surface parking lots into vibrant, high-density residential neighborhoods featuring towers and podiums surrounded by centrally located courtyards.

     

    Phase 1 of the project, known as Promenade Park Towers, will introduce two striking residential towers standing at 35 and 30 storeys respectively, set atop a shared podium and rooftop amenity area. Additionally, a new mixed-use tower is proposed to house office and hotel functions over a retail base, further enhancing the diversity and vibrancy of the area.

     

    Vortex Fire played a pivotal role in this project as the Building Code Consultant, providing expertise and solutions to ensure the safety and compliance of the development. This included developing egress plans for phased construction and zoning for the fire alarm system, contributing to the seamless and efficient execution of the project.

  • Gungahlin Marketplace

    Gungahlin Marketplace

    Level Up works will commence February 2022 with anticipated completion July 2023. The development will create a new retail level above our current North Mall (Woolworths & Kmart) building a whole new experience for our Canberra and Gungahlin community to flourish. This significant expansion and investment into one of Australia’s fasting growing regions will further strengthen Marketplace Gungahlin. Level Up responds to community demand, provides a broader retail offering, improves the amenity of the Centre and will contribute to the growth of the local economy through both short and long term job creation. Level Up will be anchored by Aldi, Daily Asian Supermarket, Indian Grocer, and the largest format Chemist Warehouse within the ACT. Additionally, an array of specialty retailers. Level Up will include a pedestrian bridge over Hibberson Street, providing connectivity between the new North Mall on Level 1 & South Mall (BIG W) truly elevating Marketplace Gungahlin to a new level. The inclusion of a large indoor children’s playground will further curate a foundation for connectivity between family, friends, and our broader community as a destination to sit back, relax and enjoy time together. Encompassed by natural light, you will be welcomed by a sense of the outdoors, indoors without impact from external weathering.

    Marketplace Gungahlin is a convenient sub regional shopping centre located in the heart of the developing Gungahlin Town Centre, one of the fastest growing residential areas in the ACT. The centre is a unique combination of retail, leisure, dining and business, well positioned to cater to the needs of a rapidly growing community. The layout and design of Marketplace is ideal for attracting shoppers in that it links to the Town Centre’s main retail high street, Hibberson Street – a major focus for facilities and pedestrian traffic. Anchored by Woolworths supermarket and Kmart on one side and BIG W on the other, the Centre includes over 72 specialty shops, services and commercial offices.
