    Cairns Harborside Hotel

The Cairns Harbourside Hotel is a modern establishment comprising 173 guest rooms, ideally situated within Cairns’ vibrant entertainment district and offering picturesque sea views. The hotel provides high-quality accommodation for visitors seeking comfort and convenience in a prime location.

Vortex Fire played a pivotal role in the refurbishment and fire safety auditing of the building as Fire Engineering Consultants. Our involvement ensured compliance with historical fire safety codes and regulations as prescribed by the National Construction Code and the Queensland Building Act 1975. This scope included the review, audit, and recommendation of rectification measures for critical fire safety systems, including passive fire protection, fire hose reels, fire hydrant systems, exit signage, and smoke detection systems. Notably, the passive fire assessment involved the inspection of nearly 6,000 existing penetrations, of which approximately 60% required maintenance or repair to meet compliance standards.

Through this work, Vortex Fire has contributed to ensuring that the refurbished hotel maintains a high standard of fire safety, safeguarding the wellbeing of its occupants while supporting the continued operation of a prominent hospitality venue.

Vortex Fire served as Bushfire Consultants on the project, undertaking comprehensive assessments of bushfire risk mitigation and loss reduction strategies tailored to the alpime setting. Our work encompassed considerations for enhancing the surrounding bushland, improving the cabins’ bushfire resilience, and facilitating effective fire service intervention. These measures were implemented without compromising the intimate, cosy aesthetic of the cabins or their integration with the natural environment.
