OUR IMPACT
Vortex Fire was the building code consultant on the Pathway Vertical Mass Timber Addition in Mississauga, Ontario. Pathway Non-Profit Housing needed to add affordable, accessible senior units without acquiring new land or disrupting existing residents. The solution was a first-of-its-kind hybrid steel and CLT vertical addition on top of an existing 7-storey apartment building, delivering 6 new accessible apartments for seniors. Our role focused on navigating the fire and code requirements for adding mass timber to an existing structure. Working closely with the architects and project team, we helped establish a code pathway that made this innovative project possible.
