  • Cairns Harborside Hotel

    Cairns Harborside Hotel

The Cairns Harbourside Hotel is a modern establishment comprising 173 guest rooms, ideally situated within Cairns’ vibrant entertainment district and offering picturesque sea views. The hotel provides high-quality accommodation for visitors seeking comfort and convenience in a prime location.

Vortex Fire played a pivotal role in the refurbishment and fire safety auditing of the building as Fire Engineering Consultants. Our involvement ensured compliance with historical fire safety codes and regulations as prescribed by the National Construction Code and the Queensland Building Act 1975. This scope included the review, audit, and recommendation of rectification measures for critical fire safety systems, including passive fire protection, fire hose reels, fire hydrant systems, exit signage, and smoke detection systems. Notably, the passive fire assessment involved the inspection of nearly 6,000 existing penetrations, of which approximately 60% required maintenance or repair to meet compliance standards.

Through this work, Vortex Fire has contributed to ensuring that the refurbished hotel maintains a high standard of fire safety, safeguarding the wellbeing of its occupants while supporting the continued operation of a prominent hospitality venue.

  • Belconnen Markets

    Belconnen Markets

The Belconnen Markets, now known as the Capital Food Market, serve as a premier destination for fresh food and casual dining, offering a vibrant culinary experience for both locals and visitors to Canberra.

Vortex Fire played a critical role in the development as Fire Engineering Consultants, ensuring full compliance with all relevant fire safety codes and regulations as mandated by the National Construction Code. In addition to regulatory compliance, Vortex Fire conducted advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and evacuation modelling to support effective smoke hazard management within the building.

Delivered in collaboration with Stewart Architecture, the project represents a successful integration of fire engineering and architectural expertise, resulting in a dynamic hub for fresh produce and culinary experiences in the heart of Canberra.

    The Art Gallery Of Sudbury

The Art Gallery of Sudbury has been a prominent cultural institution since its establishment in 1967, initiated as a Centennial project by the Sudbury and District Chamber of Commerce.

The new 104,000-square-foot Junction East building represents a significant addition to Sudbury’s cultural landscape, housing not only the Greater Sudbury Central Public Library but also the Art Gallery of Sudbury, the Sudbury Multicultural, and the Folk Arts Association. The building is envisioned as a central cultural hub for the city.

Vortex Fire plays a crucial role in this project as the building code consultant. Their expertise has been instrumental in evaluating various massing and integration approaches, ensuring a robust fire safety strategy for the interconnected floor space, and defining spatial separation between buildings.
